Josh Gooden - Cinematographer/Director & Professional Photographer

I have directed and edited short films, commercials, music videos, weddings, and fashion photography both nationally and internationally.

In 2007 I won an international award from "The Technology Student Association for my short film, "Life."

In 2008, I made an award winning PSA about alcohol awareness that aired across the state of Virgina.

In 2009, world-renowned camera accessory manufacturer, Zacuto, recognized me for my commercial work and I was awarded their highly honored Z-Kudos award.

I bring a real passion, energy and dedication to your project no matter how big or small it is. I will always deliver the absolute best that I can every single time.

I have embraced the high definition market with full HD resolution Sony Cinema Alta XDcam cameras and 35mm adapters, which replicate the look of film. The "film look" uses 35mm Nikon and Zeiss lenses to create selective focus much like one would see only in cinema or high-end television. To further my cinematic look, I utilize a Steadicam, which allows me to freely walk around with the camera attached to me via a vest and arm without any visible shake. They are usually used in bigger productions because it requires little set up time unlike the traditional dolly and track. I am one of a select few of operators in Virginia, so this type of technology will greatly increase production value. I also utilize an Arri lighting package, a full audio kit, dolly, slider, and more.

My recent work includes films for Panera Bread, Where To Get Engaged Inc, Charles Green, Christopher William Jewelers, Crosskeys Vineyards, Bravo Italian Restaurant, Rocky's Gold and Silver, Throne Magazine, and the Pure Water Forum.

Hello again,

I hope everyone is doing great. I'm sorry I haven't been as active over the past few months. My focus has been on Film mainly and photography on the side.

I've created some very successful short films and a few commercials/promotional pieces. The greatest thing is that photography and cinematography are not that much different from each other.

All of my Nikon Lenses can be used with my 35mm adapter for my Canon XHA1. So I am constantly taking my knowledge of photography and applying it to cinematography. Seeing things in motion has really improved my understanding of lighting and it's effects on different scenes.

I thought I would share a quote that accurately describes the difference between photography and cinematography.

"Photography is about capturing the moments with the best form of lighting whilst Cinematography is about capturing the motion, the sounds and the best forms of lighting"

Over the next few weeks I'll be uploading some of my films and some of the best photos I've taken over the summer.

Thanks,
-Josh

Hey everyone,

I'm glad to see we have all made it through another year! Every year I reflect back at my photographs to see how I've improved and I've come to a conclusion... this year has been the best.

With an absolutely amazing trip to England, Kiawah Island, Tennessee, and all the wonders of Virginia, how could you not come away without amazing photographs?

My kit has grown this year to. With more batteries (Battery Grip) for my Nikon and "proper glass" (Nikkor VR 70-200 2.8, 50mm 1.4) it's certainly helped me with my travel photography. Not only has my kit grown photo-wise but video-wise as well. I purchased a Canon XH-A1 Professional HD Camera and 35mm Redrock Adapter to go with it. The results are more than outstanding and I find myself picking video over photography at times.

Now with such techniques as High Dynamic Range, I feel that my images are starting to look more outstanding while retaining all the detail.

2007 was a big year but 2008 is looking bigger.

With three cinematic television commercials lined up for January and another short film in the works, it is certainly beginning to look promising.

As always, I have really appreciated the community at DeviantArt. I always look forward to reading your comments and feedback that really help me with future projects. I hope to continue to provide you with help on your work and hope everyone has a great new year!

Thanks,
-Josh Gooden

Film and Photos

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 28, 2007, 6:51 AM

Hey everyone,

Recently I've been doing a lot of film work for competitions and commercials, so I'm going to start posting my best on here. I still take photos yet I'm at the point where I'm liking doing both. The same principles apply yet both are two different fields.

The video I posted entitled "Trip" was sent in to the 2007 Apple Insomnia contest and we are still looking for votes. So if you really enjoy the video, please vote for us at the link below. The voting ends november 5th.

You will need an apple ID to vote. We would really appreciate it.

I was really hoping to grab some fall photography but this year never seemed to have a peak at all.. Hopefully I will be able to get some stills today at the local park since it is finally not raining. I guess thats what we get for not having rain all summer.

Thanks to everyone who still leaves me feedback, it is always appreciated.
